QScan Year in Review

What a Difference a Year Makes

It’s been 365 days since the new and improved QScan was launched to the world, and what a year it’s been! In that time we’ve been iterating and improving to keep on providing the best automated quality control software on the market. 

As we move into year two of the new and improved QScan, we wanted to look back and reflect on the year we’ve had. So, we’ve put together a list of our ten most significant achievements. Not only so you can see how far we’ve come, but also so you can see if any of these connect with you and your QC needs.

Now that you’ve met QScan enjoy this list of the ten most exciting changes to QScan in 2021 in no particular order — they’re all important!

A Completely New User Interface

A brand new user interface was designed and deployed, providing a better user experience, more accessibility and a fresh, modern way to QC your media. You want your footage looking its best, after all, and your AQC software should be too!

New Subscription Model

We know this isn’t a tech improvement, but it’s still a pretty big deal! QScan introduced subscriptions into our licensing model. Users now have monthly and yearly subscription options, in addition to the original outright option. This represents a big step forward since it’s the first time an automated quality control tool is affordable and available to everyone, no matter their budget.

New Advanced HDR Measurements

HDR was initially only supported by QScan at a metadata level. In 2021, QScan introduced the new advanced HDR measurements for complete compliance with HDR standards. New MaxFALL, MaxCLL with value in NITs, and further gamut checks allow users to identify colour spaces used easily.

New HDR Reporting

With new HDR measurements comes new HDR reporting. With comprehensive information, MaxFALL and MaxCLL timeline charts allow you to see the behaviour of these parameters throughout your whole file. We also have values, TC, and pixel coordinates for these measurements. You can also include visual reference images and a CIE diagram showing the distribution of pixels in BT-2020, P3, and BT-709 colour spaces. If we don’t have a report for it, it’s not worth reporting! 

New Ready-Made Templates

One of the big boons behind QScan is the ability to fully automate your QC process with ready-made and custom templates. We’ve updated this list with a whole new set of ready-made templates since the first 2021 release. Templates such as Amazon, Netflix, HBO, UK DPP HD, Photosensitive Epilepsy, Loudness, and more. We’re adding new ones all the time as well, so if we’re somehow missing the one you need, just let us know. We can probably get it in there for you.

User-friendly Quick Analysis

Some things really are as simple as 1-2-3. With QScan, you can launch a quick analysis in just three simple clicks. Select your files, select your template, and hit start. If you can find a faster and easier process, I’ll eat my party hat. 

Automated Template Creation

One of our more recent features, automated template creation, will allow you to generate new templates automatically based upon a known correct file. Then you can add in any other perceptual checks such as black frames, freeze, audio level, loudness, and anything else. You can have your template fully up and running in just a few minutes. 

New Filtering of Events in HTML Reports 

Designed to help the review process of your AQC jobs. Events can now be filtered by severity level, type (video, audio), TCin and TC out, or even by specific QC checks such as list only black frame detection events, and more.

Download of Analysis Data Per Frame or Parameter

You can download the analysis data stored for each frame. Select the parameters you want to export, and you will get a CSV file that can be imported by Excel (or other applications) to build your own charts or store historical data.  

Multi-part MXF files are now managed more efficiently. Now you can skip events happening in gaps between your program sections. The report will exclude black frames, freeze, or missing audio between valid file segments. 

2022 and Beyond

That’s our year, and what a year it’s been! We’re very proud of the updates we’ve made to QScan and even prouder of the feedback we’ve received from our customers. However, we have no intention of slowing down, and we can’t wait for you to see what 2022 and beyond has in store for QScan.
