Keyboard Shortcut Tables

The default keyboard assignments, gathered in one place. These are the factory defaults for the standard layout - your own setup may differ if keys have been reassigned (see Keyboard shortcuts reference, where you can also print your current assignments with Create HTML report).

Ctrl/Cmd means Ctrl on Windows and Linux, Cmd on macOS.

 

Playback

Key Action
Space Play / stop
L Play forward; press again for faster speeds
J Play backwards; press again for faster speeds
K Stop
K+L Step forward one frame
K+J Step back one frame
Alt+Space Preview with pre-roll and post-roll
F11 Fullscreen preview on the current monitor
F12 Fullscreen preview on the secondary monitor
Shift+Return Exit fullscreen preview

 

Navigation

Left / Right One frame back / forward
Shift+Left / Shift+Right Ten frames back / forward
, / . Nudge selected segments back / forward (playhead or trim point if nothing is selected)
< / > Nudge back / forward ten frames
Alt+, / Alt+. Nudge back / forward by a typed amount
A Jump to previous cut
S Jump to next cut
H Jump to start

Marks

Editing and clipboard

Ctrl/Cmd+C Copy marked region or selected segments to clipboard
Ctrl/Cmd+X Cut to clipboard and close the gap
Alt+Ctrl/Cmd+X Cut to clipboard, leaving a gap
Ctrl/Cmd+V Clipboard paste (insert)
Alt+Ctrl/Cmd+V Clipboard paste (replace)
Ctrl/Cmd+Z Undo
Ctrl+Y (Windows/Linux), Cmd+Shift+Z (macOS) Redo

 

Trimming

Q Trim Last Out (outgoing side of the previous cut)
W Trim In (open a trim on the incoming side)
E Trim Out (open a trim on the outgoing side)
R Trim Next In (incoming side of the next cut)
U Move cut (trim both sides together)
Y Slip clip
T Slide clip
Tab Join (join/unjoin the trim selection)
Ctrl/Cmd+T Toggle Smart Trim

 

Timeline and tools

= / - Zoom in / out on the timeline
+ Zoom toggle - full zoom out, then back to your last zoom level
Alt+C Toggle the Cut tool
Alt+M Toggle the Selection tool
Alt+V Toggle the Voiceover panel
Alt+D Toggle segment activation (activate/deactivate)
Ctrl/Cmd+M Toggle Clip Link
Ctrl/Cmd+L Link / unlink the selected clips
Ctrl/Cmd+N Toggle Snapping
Ctrl/Cmd+1 Toggle all track edit states (targeting)
Ctrl/Cmd+2 Toggle all track keyframes
Ctrl/Cmd+3 Toggle all track locks
Ctrl/Cmd+4 Toggle all track monitors

Note: Shift+click on any of the four master track buttons - or on the matching button in a track header - resets that control on every track instead of toggling it. Track Sync ships without a key; look it up in the Keyboard Shortcuts panel to assign one.
