Before you start any of the installations below, check the following:

  • Virus-protection software, security software and Firewall(s) are turned
  • Make sure you have the latest proprietary graphics card drivers for Linux installed.
  • All other programs are closed
  • You are logged into the operating system with Administrator privileges.

Downloading Installers

Open a web browser and visit

Select the appropriate Linux installer for the distribution

Installing on Debian-Based Linux Distributions

Currently, Lightworks only supports Mint 17, Ubuntu/Lubuntu/Xbuntu 20.04 and higher

Double click on the .deb file to open

Select Install Package. The installation process starts, together with any required dependencies.

When the installation has been completed, it is recommended that you restart your system

Installing on RPM-Based Linux Distributions

Currently, Lightworks only supports Fedora 34 and higher. After installing Fedora, you must install and run the 'RPM Fusion' repositories, which can be found at: http://rpmfusion.org/Configuration

 

You will need both the Free and Non-Free versions.

Double-click on the .rpm file you downloaded to open the package installer.

Select Install Package. The installation process starts, together with any required dependencies.

When the installation has been completed, it is recommended that you restart your system.

Installing on Flatpak Supported Linux Distributions

Open a terminal to the directory you downloaded the install and type:

sudo flatpak install ./lightworks-2025.x-AMD64.flatpak

Open a terminal and type:

flatpak run com.lwks.Lightworks to start the application

Installing on Snap Supported Linux Distributions

Open a terminal to the directory you downloaded the install and type:

sudo snap install ./lightworks_2024.1_amd64.snap --classic --dangerous
